I have created this page to help us coordinate our preparations for the 2008 BioEYES Institute June 23-27. In the first column I have listed the items in broad terms. If you have any items that should be added, please add them in the blank rows or at the bottom of the table. In the second column I have listed the person responsible. If I have mistakenly listed your name as the responsible person please put a question mark after your name and I will contact you. In the third column please enter the percentage of the item you have completed. The fourth and fifth columns are for comments.

Anne - Need cover ltr and Indiana standards
Jamie- Is there a dress code for the week and in the labs?
PJM - We'll ask the teachers to wear comfortable clothing for lab work. We'll warn them that they are likely to spill some lab materials on their clothing during the week. We'll also require the teachers to wear closed-toed footwear unless a medical problem with their foot requires otherwise.

How many fish and what genotype? Here is the breakdown for each unit: Elementary and middle will cross albino and wildtype fish and will need wildtype offspring. For the high school we will cross (1) wildtype and albino; (2) albino and albino; and (3) wildtype hetero and albino - unless you have done it differently in local high schools. We should try to work in pairs.
Jamie - I think it may be useful to review the set-up and collection on Wed. and Thurs. with the teachers and the outreach educator. Would we be able to set up additional fish on Wed. to collect again on Thurs? It would only have to be a few. It also will provide us with several stages of development on Friday.
Back-up embryos will be available in case the fish don't breed, which is very likely.
James on 6/19/08 - All phenotyes and sexes of fish will be available all week. Additionally, I can request timed matings from the animal facility and have embryoes at any time point that is required.

All I really need is the cells, my lab has everything available for me to actually do the experiment here. I still need to speak with Michelle Whaley about getting a set-up for the "cooking class style" deomonstration.

Jamie - I would like the teachers to use the state standards to complete an activity during the first symposium. Can we provide state standards or can you send me them and I will bring the activity with me?
PJM - Anne would gladly make any hard copies you request here. Let us know what sections you need. The following is the link to the Indiana Academic Standards. http://www.doe.in.gov/standards/welcome2.html
The standards are from August 2006. You may want to call me at 574-631-1759. Tom has begun looking at these for us.

Jamie - I assume that Danielle and I will be working with the teams that will present BioEYES and the BT unit. Is this correct? Will their be a team presenting each grade level for Project BioEYES.
PJM - Yes, you and Danielle will be working with the teachers who are doing BioEYES presentations at all three grade levels and with those doing BT. James and Mark will be working with those doing PCR and gel electrophoresis.
