This Friday (6/27) afternoon we will convene a symposium to summarize and review much of our week together. All of the 2008 Institute participants, several 2009 Institute participants and some invited guests will participate in the symposium. We are asking you in groups of about 4 to prepare short (about 15 minute) presentations for the symposium. With these presentations we hope to accomplish the following:

Outcomes

1. During the presentation preparation: careful reflection about the essential aspects of a particular activity - What was the purpose and what impact did doing the activity have on you? ( What did you learn? What did you experience? How is your future different?)
2. During the presentation: a review for 2008 institute participants and a preview for 2009 institute participants
3. During the coming months: adapted presentations can be made at your school's professional development days and at state, regional and national conferences (We have a total travel budget of about $3000 for presentations at conferences. We'll set up some proposal and review system.)

Audience

Our target audience is your colleagues at your school and in your local area. We are requesting seven 15-minute Power Point presentations. One in each of the following categories:

1. BioEYES K-5
2. BioEYES 6-8
3. BioEYES 9-12
4. Isolating DNA
5. Amplifying DNA
6. Gel Electrophoresis
7. Bacterial Transformation

We hope that the presentations will be rich in photographs and internet resources (images, animations, etc.). In a 15 minute presentation you can only give an overview of these topics (the highlights), but we hope that the overview is attractive and engaging.

To accomplish this request the following resources and aids will be available:
